Vol. 1, No. 5: Week of January 30th to February 5th

Dear Readers,

This week, the Tzolkin calendar comes to an end as we hit Kin 260 on Thursday, then a new cycle begins with Kin 1 on Friday. Note these two days are also portal days.

Many faith traditions celebrate the beginning of February: IN Gaelic tradition, Imbolc or St. Brigid day takes place on February 1st; in Christian traditions, Groundhog Day takes place on February 2nd; following Asian lunar calendars, there is the holiday Setsbun in Shinto customs and Li Chun in Chinese customs. All of these holidays celebrate the midpoint between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox that marks the quickening. On this day, Nature hastens us to awaken from our winter hibernation and start building towards the dreams we wish to see blossom by summer. Interestingly, Kin 1 in the Tzolkin calendar lies precisely on this midpoint this year - February 3rd.

This year, Ireland will be celebrating St. Brigid Day for the first time as an official holiday (on Monday February 6th). As St. Brigid is the patron saint for healing, this holiday is dedicated to celebrating all the healthcare workers who have courageously served throughout the COVID pandemic.
